How FUSIONscore™ works. And where we draw the line.
FUSIONscore™ by Q Branch is a practitioner-designed organisational alignment diagnostic for experience-led businesses.
It was designed to help leaders examine how Brand, People and Operations work together, then compare different perspectives across the same organisation.
The methodology is deliberately transparent. We would rather explain what the data can and cannot tell you than decorate a simple diagnostic with fake scientific certainty.
Three forces. Two system signals. One additional clue.
BRAND
The promise the business makes and the commercial position supporting it.
MEASURED THROUGH
Positioning & Choice · Promise & Expectation · Distinctiveness & Memory · Commercial Alignment
PEOPLE
How strategy becomes behaviour, ownership, capability and leadership action.
MEASURED THROUGH
Strategy Activation · Leadership Consistency · Ownership & Accountability · Capability & Behaviour
OPERATIONS
Whether the business can deliver the intended standard repeatedly.
MEASURED THROUGH
Standards & Repeatability · Process & Handoffs · Operating Rhythm & Visibility · Scale & Digital Enablement
ALIGNMENT
Whether Brand, People and Operations appear to reinforce one another.
EXPERIENCE DELIVERY
How confidently the organisation believes the experience it delivers matches the promise it makes.
KNOWLEDGE GAP
Where respondents do not know enough to assess an organisational condition confidently.
Observable conditions, not personality types.
The current Leadership Baseline uses 44 organisational statements. The instrument is designed to ask respondents about conditions they can observe or reasonably judge rather than asking them to select a business "personality".

One consistent scale.

OR
I don't know enough about this to answer
FUSIONscore™ does not force respondents to guess. Knowledge gaps are excluded from the performance calculation but retained as a diagnostic signal.
How an answer becomes a score.
Numeric answers are converted onto a 0-100 scale.
((answer - 1) ÷ 6) × 100
1 becomes 0 · 4 becomes 50 · 7 becomes 100
Three questions form each core driver.
Each Brand, People and Operations driver currently contains three statements. A driver requires at least 2 of 3 valid numeric answers to produce a score.
KNOWLEDGE GAP — INSUFFICIENT DATA TO SCORE
If fewer than two are answered numerically.
Do not treat missing information as poor performance.
Pillar scores.
Each core pillar contains four drivers. A pillar requires at least 3 of 4 valid driver scores.
Pillar score: the unweighted mean of valid driver scores. This maintains equal driver weighting.
The overall score is deliberately simple.
The overall FUSIONscore™ is Brand + People + Operations, equally weighted.
(Brand + People + Operations) ÷ 3
All three core pillars must be scoreable.
Alignment does not secretly multiply the result. Experience Delivery does not apply a hidden penalty.
There are no proprietary black-box coefficients in Version 1.
Alignment is calculated separately from four dedicated statements. At least three valid numeric answers are required. It remains a separate system signal rather than being used as a secret multiplier on the overall FUSIONscore™.
Experience Delivery is not direct customer research.
Experience Delivery examines how confidently the organisation believes the experience it delivers matches the promise it makes. It is based on internal organisational perception. It does not replace NPS, CSAT, customer reviews, complaints, retention, repeat purchase, customer interviews or other direct customer evidence.
At least three of four Experience Delivery statements must be answered numerically.
Sometimes "I don't know" is one of the most useful answers.
Knowledge gap is reported separately. It is not scored using the same maturity bands as Brand, People or Operations.
KNOWLEDGE GAP 18%
means 18% of relevant statements were not answered numerically. These knowledge gaps may reveal areas where strategic or operational information is not reaching the people asked to judge it. A knowledge gap does not automatically mean poor performance. It tells leadership where understanding itself may deserve investigation.
Working ranges, not population norms.
These are working interpretive ranges created by Q Branch to support leadership discussion. They are not population percentiles, industry norms or statistically validated benchmark bands.
Why the average is not enough.
FUSIONscore™ separately examines critically weak individual statements. A healthy overall pillar score should not hide a serious local weakness. Red Flags exist to surface important low-scoring conditions that could otherwise disappear inside an average.
The exact Red Flag rules must remain version controlled. Do not invent statistical significance.
Measuring different versions of the same business.
The Leadership Reality Gap is the difference between leadership's assessment of an organisational condition and the wider organisation's assessment of the same condition.
Leadership mean - comparison-group mean
A positive result means leadership assessed the condition more strongly.
A negative result means leadership assessed the condition more critically.
The Leadership Reality Gap identifies disagreement worth investigating. It does not establish which perspective is objectively correct.
How individual responses become a company result.
Company results should be calculated from eligible underlying respondent data. Do not average department averages together where group sizes differ. Do not give every department equal weight merely because it has its own result. The company score should reflect valid underlying responses according to the current scoring model.
Not every group gets a score.
A group must meet the confidentiality threshold before segmented results can appear. Default: minimum 5 submitted respondents. A displayed metric must also have minimum 5 valid numeric responses.
A department may contain seven respondents. If only three can confidently answer a particular statement, that segmented statement result should remain suppressed.
The mean does not tell you whether people agree.
FUSIONscore™ can examine how spread out responses are around the mean. A score of 60 created by broad agreement may represent a different organisational condition from a score of 60 created by highly polarised experiences. Response dispersion therefore provides another diagnostic signal. Version 1 should not claim population-based disagreement thresholds unless they have been validated.
The most useful benchmark may be yourself six months ago.

WAVE 03
Each wave preserves the instrument version, scoring version, relevant reporting rules, assessment dates and underlying responses. The purpose is to measure movement without silently rewriting historical results when the methodology changes.
What FUSIONscore™ can tell you.
- ✓patterns of organisational perception
- ✓relative strengths and weaknesses
- ✓leadership perception gaps
- ✓knowledge gaps
- ✓areas of internal disagreement
- ✓Red Flags
- ✓differences between eligible organisational groups
- ✓movement across assessment waves
Diagnostic signal is not causal proof.
FUSIONscore™ does not by itself prove:
- ✕why a score is low
- ✕that leadership or employees are objectively correct
- ✕that a low score caused a commercial result
- ✕that customer experience is poor
- ✕that a specific intervention will solve the issue
- ✕that a score predicts future financial performance
The report should direct better investigation, not replace it.
What has been established. What has not.
FUSIONscore™ Version 1 is a practitioner-designed organisational diagnostic with transparent scoring and a planned empirical validation programme.
It is not currently presented as a psychometrically validated scale or normed industry benchmark.
FUTURE VALIDATION WORK MAY EXAMINE
We will not invent a benchmark because it looks good on a dashboard.
Version 1 does not claim that "72 is top quartile" or "you outperform 83% of hospitality businesses" unless a future validated dataset genuinely supports that conclusion.
Initially, one of the most useful benchmarks is your own organisation over time.
